Giovanni Antonio Terzi is not as widely known as his contemporary John Dowland, but not due to the quality of his music. His repertoire contains some of the most varied and accomplished compositions for the instrument. Terzi is the greatest lute composer in northern Italy at the end of the 16th century and yet his life remains a mystery. Few musicians perform his pieces, since they demand a high level of skill. This program is a true discovery for the public, shedding new light on the repertoire of Renaissance lute. It is remarkable in its speed, the originality of its expression, its interiority, and, above all, its creativity.
I recorded this program for the German record label Carpe Diem, and the album was released in May 2022. This is the first album to focus exclusively on the solo music of Giovanni Antonio Terzi, and over 70% had never been recorded before. It has been reviewed favorably in the international press, and was well received in France, Spain, Sweden, England, Switzerland, USA, Germany and Belgium, among other countries.
